Behind the scenes of the Criminal Justice System

A NUMBER of events were held across Wiltshire and Swindon as part of this year's Inside Justice Week.

The campaign seeks to explain how the criminal justice system works and show the people involved in delivering justice today.

Activities in Wiltshire and Swindon were co-ordinated by the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board.

The WCJB, in partnership with criminal justice agencies and partner organisations across Wiltshire and Swindon, staged a number of events to encourage people to get involved in local justice.

They also sought to inform CJS staff about the work of individual agencies.

Events and activities included:

  • Working with Swindon Community Safety Partnership to promote the campaign at the Orbital Centre in North Swindon;
  • Staff engagement conference at Bowood House;
  • You Be The Judge at Salisbury law courts;
  • Criminal justice roadshow which visited Calne, Trowbridge, Chippenham and Bemerton in Salisbury;
  • Chief Officers doing unpaid work at Yatesbury;
  • Masterchef event at Erlestoke Prison, judged by celebrity chef Martin Blunos; and
  • Open event for the public at Erlestoke Prison

Several key events and anniversaries for 2009 were integral to this year’s Inside Justice Week.

These were the new court opening in Salisbury and the 170th anniversary of Wiltshire Police.
