Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board Film Receives International Recognition

‘The Overdose Notes,’ a powerful and thought provoking film based on the story of a drug addict and alcoholic who dies of an overdose after leaving prison, has scooped two gold medals and a bronze at Europe’s leading business communication awards.

The film, commissioned by the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board and produced in cooperation with the Wiltshire Community Safety Partnerships, Wiltshire Police, Office for Criminal Justice Reform and Government Office for the South West, won two gold awards for Best Drama and Best Script, and bronze for Best Music. The awards ceremony at The Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane on Friday evening was organised by the IVCA, International Visual Communications Association.

The film follows a criminal justice official as he talks to the people personally and professionally involved with the victim and seeks to understand how the death could have happened.

Diana Fulbrook, Chair of the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board and Chief Officer of Wiltshire Probation Area said, ‘The film has shown it has the ability to deliver a real impact at every viewing. Those seeing the film at a strategic, operational and also a community level find it inflicts a real level of understanding of the raw emotional issues such as addiction, crime and mental health. The film delivers its messages with a great amount of power and thought provoking energy, and has proven to leave viewers inspired to make change in society and engage in these issues in real life.’
Lynn Gaskin, Head of Crime Reduction and Community Protection for Wiltshire County Council said “We are pleased to have worked with the Local Criminal Justice Board in the commissioning this film. The award recognises not only the powerful nature of this form of medium in getting messages across, but also the ability to deliver those messages in an empathetic and sensitive way.”
'The Overdose Notes' highlights the importance of a joined up approach to criminal justice and working together to improve community safety. The relationship between the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board and Safer Wiltshire Partnerships which includes Wiltshire County Council, District Councils, Police, Fire, Health, Probation and a wide range of key partners from the voluntary sector, continues to develop to ensure that these aims are met within Wiltshire.
