Tackling Drugs in Britain Day 23 May 2007

National Tackling Drugs Day 2007 in Wiltshire aims to build on the success and momentum of the activities and initiatives which are taking place throughout the county.

The purpose of the day is to raise awareness of the work being done by agencies across Wiltshire to tackle drugs and reduce drug-related crime and to highlight the tangible improvements that are being made in local communities.

In Wiltshire, the day will be used to promote the services on offer and will be achieved via addresses given by local service providers and supporters of the Drug and Alcohol service throughout Wiltshire. Speakers will engage with the media and further answer questions on partnership working throughout the county.

Speakers for the day will include:

  • Jon Perry, Prolific and other Priority Offender (PPO) and Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) manager for Wiltshire and Swindon
  • Arron Dibbings, Chair, Wiltshire Users Forum
  • Cllr Mary Douglas, joint responsibility for the Department of Community Services at Wiltshire County Council
  • Lynne Hill, Prolific and other Priority Offender (PPO) and Drug Interventions Programme (DIP) coordinator for Wiltshire

Jon Perry said, "During the course of the ten year Tackling Drugs Strategy there has been a revolution in drug treatment in this country. With the massive increase in the numbers of people in treatment the associated reduction in crime is immeasurable"
