Courts Director Commended with OBE Honour
COURTS DIRECTOR COMMENDED FOR 40 YEARS OF SERVICE WITH OBE HONOUR
Norman Jeffery, the Area Director for her Majesty’s Courts Service in Wiltshire has been recognised with an OBE for his dedication to his work within the Courts for over 41 years.
Norman’s career began in London before arriving in Wiltshire in 1985 where he became the first Court Manager of the Crown and County Court in the then new building in Islington Street. Norman took on various Area management roles, having a responsibility for the Crown and County Courts in Wiltshire, Avon and Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight and Dorset. For the last two and a half years, Norman has been responsible for the administration of all the courts in Wiltshire, including the Magistrate’s Courts.
Norman responded to receiving his award with these words, "I was thrilled to receive my OBE in the New Year's Honours list. Having been employed in the Court Service for over 41 years, and being due to retire, it brings my career to what feels like a splendid end. I believe that my award is also recognition of the support which I have received from the many staff in HM Courts Service who work extremely hard to provide an excellent service to those who use the courts in the county. I also hope it is a reflection of the increased effective joint working by all of the criminal justice agencies in the county. In recent years I have seen a major improvement to the way in which criminal justice services are delivered by the agencies working together to provide an efficient single service. It is a career which I have thoroughly enjoyed and one where I hope I have been able to provide a positive contribution. As someone who has lived in Wiltshire for over 20 years, and has no intention of moving away, I recognise the importance of an effective justice system to all who live in the county".
Diana Fulbrook, Chief Probation Officer and Chair of the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board said, “The members of the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board are delighted about Norman’s wonderful achievement. His award is testimony to his work and dedication to the courts system for over 41 years and is thoroughly deserved. Norman has been an active member of the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board and has been committed to working with us to improve the way the justice system works for the benefit of Wiltshire. He will be missed when he retires at the end of the month and we wish him well in addition to congratulating him on his OBE.”
