Inside Justice Week 2008

Your chance to see inside the Criminal Justice System

Preparations are under way locally for this year’s Inside Justice Week, which gives everyone the chance to take a look behind the scenes of the Criminal Justice System (CJS).

Inside Justice Week is a major public campaign that aims to open up the CJS to the public through a week of co-ordinated events and media activity across England and Wales. It will take place between 18-25 October.

It will seek to explain how the system works and show the people involved in delivering justice today.

The theme for this year's campaign is ‘Justice For All’, and provisional details of planned activities and events so far in Wiltshire and Swindon are listed below.

Last year 135 events took place across England and Wales during Inside Justice Week, to show how justice is done in our police stations, courts and prisons.

Attorney General, the Rt Hon Baroness Scotland QC, said: “Inside Justice Week is so important because the justice system belongs to the public.

“It's really important for them to understand what we're doing on their behalf – both with them, and for them.

“We rely on ordinary people to come forward, to be witnesses, to report crime and to stand up for their neighbours.

“It can be worrying when people don't understand how the system works. It is reassuring when they do understand it, so they can make critical helpful comments about how we can change it and how it can be made better, so it can really be theirs.”
