West Mercia Criminal Justice Board is supported by a Performance Manager and an Area Co-ordinator.
Criminal Justice Boards were created to focus on the Public Service Agreement targets. These are:
- To Increase Public Confidence in the CJS
- To bring more offences to justice.
Currently a Justice Gap of approximately 80% exists in the amount of recorded crime and the amount of those crimes resulting in a successful conclusion (Trial in Court, Caution or Conviction). Increasing the number of offences brought to justice is referred to as Narrowing the Justice Gap - Persistent Young Offenders (PYOs)
Maintain the PYO pledge of ensuring that the average time from arrest to sentence for PYOs is no greater than 71 days
The Board has written a Delivery Plan which shows the commitment of each agency to achieving the targets outlined in it. This plan sets out the actions necessary for improving performance in order to reach the PSA targets.
In addition West Mercia has prioritised three focus areas
- Maintain and improve performance
- Increase confidence
- Reduce re-offending
At the heart of this process are:
- Improving satisfaction for victims, witnesses and the general public
- Staff Engagement
- Community Engagement
- Communications
We believe that the people of West Mercia deserve to be free from the consequences of crime and anti-social behaviour. We will protect the public with effective and proportionate responses.
MISSION
We aim to reduce crime, and the fear of crime, and to improve the criminal justice system.

We will work together:
- to deliver proportionate and effective responses to offending
- to promote equality of access, equality of opportunity for all and combat discrimination wherever it occurs
- to value and respect each others' contribution and the responsibilities of our respective agencies, and
