Our Priorities
Warwickshire LCJB Delivery Plan 2009/10
This Delivery plan for Warwickshire reflects the Board’s vision and priorities, as set out in our Strategic Plan 2008-11. The Board is committed to protecting communities from harm and is determined to strive for an efficient and effective criminal justice system in which victims, witnesses, the public, our staff and our partners can have confidence.
There are three strands to our strategy.
- Firstly, a commitment to delivering a strengthened criminal justice system in which our systems are robust, efficient and effective.
A particular focus for Warwickshire is looking towards the opening of the Justice Centre in Leamington Spa in 2010 and the Efficiency Project Board will develop and implement a number of projects in preparation of all CJS agencies co-locating and working together in a more effective, efficient and streamlined way.
The Board is becoming more focussed and is committed to target those offenders, in the community, who both present the highest risk of harm and who also cause the most harm to the community. This approach will maximise opportunities for increased partnership working through the joint identification and assessment of offenders within an integrated offender management approach which is characterised by the extension of information sharing and intervention networks. We will seek to reduce re-offending as a primary business objective and, thereby, reduce reported crime. This will assist us in achieving our vision to protect communities from harm. We will build upon the recent PPO review in Warwickshire to ensure that identified offenders receive a premium service from all partners.
- The second essential principle, running in parallel with the first, puts victims and witnesses at the heart of the criminal justice system. We intend to focus, specifically, on improving victim satisfaction with the police; and victim and witness satisfaction at both pre-charge and post-charge stages. We are committed to extending the parameters of our current victim and witness forum (specifically to focus on pre-charge activity); to raise awareness of and to contribute towards the reduction of Domestic Abuse and to manage the performance of the Specialist Domestic Violence Courts (SDVCs).
A principal driver is to address victims and witnesses’ concerns over sentencing issues.
- The third, supporting element of our strategy , involves engagement with the public and our own staff. We see engagement as a vehicle through which we are able to better inform and involve the public and staff in what we are doing, thereby increasing public and staff confidence in the criminal justice system. The Board is also committed to raising public confidence in BME communities through a reduction in unjustified race disproportionality at key stages of the CJS.
