What is the Thames Valley Criminal Justice Board?

Local Criminal Justice Boards formally came into existence in April 2003. The aim of the boards is to improve co-ordination between criminal justice agencies which include:

  • The Police
  • Crown Prosecution Service (CPS)
  • Her Majesty's Courts Service
  • Youth Offending Teams (YOTs)
  • National Probation Service
  • Prison Service

Local Boards are accountable to the National Criminal Justice Board.This is chaired by the Permanent Secretary to the Home Office, and its membership includes the Permanent Secretary to the Department of Constitutional Affairs, the chief executive of each criminal justice agency, the president of the Association of Chief Police Officers and a senior judge.
