Welcome to "On Board", the Website designed to help you understand the priorities and work of the South Wales Criminal Justice Board (CJB). The Website will be regularly updated to keep you abreast of the Board's work and other developments in the Criminal Justice System (CJS).
This website is currently under review. We apologise for any out of date content.
In 2001, Lord Justice Auld conducted a review of the work of the Criminal Justice agencies and made a number of recommendations in his "Justice for All" white paper. In response to his recommendations, the Government established 42 Local Criminal Justice Boards (LCJBs) throughout England and Wales in April 2003 to deliver a joined up Criminal Justice Service in which partnership is key to success.
In its Strategic Plan for Criminal Justice 2004/08, the government has pledged;
- to reduce crime by 15% and further in high crime areas by 2007-08;
- to improve the delivery of justice by increasing the number of crimes for which an offender is brought to justice to 1.25 million by 2007-08;
- to reassure the public, reducing the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour;
- and building confidence in the Criminal Justice System without compromising fairness.
In order to turn this vision into reality, the South Wales Board has a number of priorities agreed by Government, which are: -
- Increasing the number of offences brought to justice through a more modern and efficient justice process;
- Increasing the number of prolific offender offences brought to justice;
- Reducing the time taken to finalise persistent young offender cases;
- The CPS taking over from the police the decision to charge suspects and selecting the appropriate charges;
- Reducing the number of ineffective trials at Court;
- Overseeing rigorous enforcement processes that will revolutionise compliance with sentences and orders of the court; and
- Increasing public confidence in, and satisfaction with, the Criminal Justice System.

Croeso i' 'Bwrdd', y Wefan sydd wedi'i chynllunio i'ch helpu chi i ddeall blaenoriaethau a gwaith Bwrdd Cyfiawnder Troseddol De Cymru (CJB). Caiff y Wefan ei diweddaru'n rheolaidd i'ch hysbysu o waith y Bwrdd a datblygiadau eraill yn y System Cyfiawnder Troseddol (CJS).
Yn 2001, cynhaliodd yr Arglwydd Ustus Auld adolygiad o waith yr asiantaethau Cyfiawnder Troseddol a gwnaeth nifer o argymhellion yn ei bapur gwyn 'Cyfiawnder i Bawb'. Fel ymateb i'w argymhellion, sefydlodd y Llywodraeth 42 o Fyrddau Cyfiawnder Troseddol Lleol (LCJBs) ledled Cymru a Lloegr ym mis Ebrill 2003 i ddarparu Gwasanaeth Cyfiawnder Troseddol unedig lle mae partneriaeth yn allweddol er mwyn sicrhau llwyddiant.
Yn ei Chynllun Strategol ar gyfer Cyfiawnder Troseddol 2004/08, mae' llywodraeth wedi addo;
- lleihau troseddu 15% a mwy mewn ardaloedd lle ceir llawer o droseddu erbyn 2007-08;

- tawelu meddwl y cyhoedd, lleihau' pryder am droseddu ac ymddygiad anghymdeithasol;
- cynyddu hyder y cyhoedd yn y System Cyfiawnder Troseddol heb beryglu tegwch
Er mwyn troi' weledigaeth hon yn realiti, mae gan Fwrdd De Cymru nifer o flaenoriaethau y cytunwyd arnynt gan y Llywodraeth, sef:
- Cynyddu nifer y troseddau a ddygir i gyfraith drwy broses gyfiawnder fwy modern ac effeithlon;
- Cynyddu' nifer o droseddau troseddwyr cyson a ddygir i gyfraith;
- Lleihau' amser a gymerir i ddod ag achosion troseddwyr ifanc cyson i'w terfyn;
- Y penderfyniad i gyhuddo pobl a ddrwgdybir a dewis y cyhuddiadau priodol yn cael ei drosglwyddo o' heddlu i Wasanaeth Erlyn y Goron.
- Goruchwylio prosesau gorfodi llym a fydd yn chwyldroi cydymffurfiaeth â dedfrydau a gorchmynion llys;
- Cynyddu hyder y cyhoedd yn y System Cyfiawnder Troseddol, a boddhad gyda' system.
