The Justice Awards recognise exceptional achievement
by staff and volunteers working in criminal justice.
The awards aim to spread the word about the many stories of dedication and courage found in our modern Criminal Justice System. They recognise the outstanding achievement in a variety of fields and boost the confidence of staff and volunteers. The awards also aim to improve the system as a whole by sharing information and ideas on what works best.
Ann Barrowcliffe
National Runner Up
in the
Volunteer of the Year category
Anne Barrowcliffe has been a volunteer for Victim Support in Rotherham, for the last 9 YEARS!
Although Anne is in constant discomfort and pain, as a sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis, she managers to see between 2 and 8 victims a week, whilst maintaining her representative role. This involves attending meetings and disseminating information down to volunteers across the area.
Over the years, she has supported a number of long-term cases including domestic violence, murder and victims of sexual violence. Her line manager said the following in support of the nomination:
“Victims comment that when they have seen Ann, it has been of value to them and it is good to know that somebody cares and listens. She always follows up with any agreed actions even if it is just a telephone call the next week to see how they are.”

These awards recognise how staff and volunteers working within the criminal justice system in South Yorkshire make a dramatic difference to people’s lives.
At the Local Awards ceremony held at Hilton Hotel Sheffield on 23rd October 2009
