Businesses in Merthyr Tydfil
Community Justice affects all aspects of the community, from the people who live in Merthyr Tydfil, to the people who work in Merthyr Tydfil. Community Justice can have a real impact on your business and can play a significant role in a number of ways.
If your business is suffering because of its immediate environment (e.g. criminal damage to your property or the surrounding environment), or from anti-social behaviour, the community justice team can work with you and members of the community to address these problems. This may include sending offenders to carry out unpaid work to repair the damage done so that customers are not put off from visiting your premises.
By engaging with the community justice team and the court you will be able to let them know the impact of ongoing crime on your business, so that sentencers are aware of the issues that you are facing.
How can your business help make life better for your community?
There are a number of ways in which you may help to make life better for people who live or work near your business. A big problem is stopping offenders from committing crime and continuing to cause harm to the community. Businesses can play a major role in this in several ways including:
- Offering work experience or training, as part of a sentence or on a voluntary basis, for the offender to learn new skills and find employment
- Supporting staff to volunteer in the criminal justice system. This could be as magistrates, mentors supporting offenders through their sentences, special constables, youth offender panel members, or victim and witness support
- Offering resources to the community justice team
If you are interested in becoming more involved with the court, perhaps by attending a regular community justice forum, or by inviting members of the community justice team to attend business community meetings, or are just interested in getting more information, please contact the Wales team at: cjwales@hmcourts-service.gsi.gov.uk
