Careers in the CJS

The organisations that make up the Criminal Justice System offer a wide variety of challenging and rewarding career opportunities.
CJS staff have a real chance to make a difference to people's lives by providing support to victims and witnesses, making sure we bring offenders to justice and helping to build safer communities. The system is undergoing modernisation and reform aimed at significantly improving the service we deliver to the public.
Joined-up working across the CJS enables agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the justice process and will increasingly enhance the support the system can offer.
But working for the CJS isn't just about being on the front line. The process of delivering justice is complex and involves a vast number of roles. Just like any other business it's the many behind-the-scenes functions that play a vital part in achieving success.
You can apply for a post as a police or prison officer, or opt for a less well known role in health and welfare, support services or IT.
Even if you have only a few hours to spare, or already have a career, you can still play a vital role as one of many volunteers, perhaps as a magistrate, special constable, victim support or witness service volunteer, to name just a few.
