Nicola was appointed as Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Northumbria in April 1999 when the CPS was reorganised into 42 areas. Before that, she worked as Prosecutor in West Yorkshire, Hampshire and Essex, in Policy Directorate in CPS headquarters and in Wales where she was Assistant Chief Crown Prosecutor. Nicola is responsible for all the business of CPS Northumbria, including all casework decisions. She became Northumbria LCJB chair in April 2005 to 2008

 

  
  

  
  
  Shiela Proudlock -

Shiela Proudlock
Sheila Proudlock commenced work for the Lord Chancellor's Department in the House of Lords in 1978, before moving onto various HQ appointments, and a secondment in the Cabinet Office (Scrutiny of Legal Aid). Sheila has held various posts north and south of the country before settling in the north east at the end of 1998. Sheila was appointed Area Director for the recently amalgamated Cleveland, Durham and Northumbria Area in April 2007, and has administrative responsibility for the Crown Court, County and Magistrates' Courts within her Area. She took over as LCJB chair from April 2008.

 

 

 
  
  Dave Gardiner -

David Gardiner

Dave Gardiner, Director of Operations/Deputy Chief Officer, joined the then Northumbria Probation Service in 1982 after a varied early career and education at Newcastle and Oxford Universities. He worked for several years at the service's homeless unit (including a period managing the Wayside day centre) in Pitt Street, Newcastle before becoming a team manager at Byker in 1988 and assistant chief officer, initially in Northumberland and North Tyneside, in 1993.

His current post includes responsibility for all aspects of service delivery to offenders, leading for us on the annual business planning cycle and representing the area in various strategic settings such as the Local Criminal Justice Board and chair of MAPPA SMB.

 

 

  Greg Vant -
Northumbria Police  (NP)
Greg Vant

He joined Thames Valley Police in 1980 where he served as a uniform officer for three years. In 1983 he transferred to Northumbria Police where he has gained extensive experience in both uniform and CID roles.Mr Vant was Detective Superintendent in charge of the Major Crime Teams before being promoted to Chief Superintendent in 2003, when he led the Professional Standards Department, his last role before completing the Strategic Command Course at Bramshill.
He has a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) and is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

 

  


  
  Peter NelsonPeter Nelson -
Legal Services Commisssion (LSC)  

Peter, Regional Director, Legal Services Commission, North East Region, joined the LSC in 1997 as Regional Director for the North West. He transferred to the Leeds Office in September 1999. He previously worked in Hospital Management, 15 years with the NHS, then 12 years with BUPA.

In April 2006, Peter was appointed Regional Director of the North East Region. This region covers both the Contracting Teams in the Newcastle and Leeds Offices. Peter has Regional Director lead responsibility for Crime and is also Chair of the Finance, Benefits and Debt Pathway Action Team for the Regional Reducing Re-offending Strategy.

 

  

 
Mick Lees
Mick Lees - Her Majesty's Prison Service  (HMPS)                    

Mick Lees, Governor of HMP Acklington, joined the Prison Service in 1979 as a Prison Officer, at Wormwood Scrubs, in London. He has served at seven prisons since 1983 in Bristol, Lancashire, Teesdale and Northumberland and was Governor of HMP Kirklevington Grange, HMP Young Offenders’ Institution Castington and HMP Holme House before his current role in Acklington.
Brought up in Kielder, educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Hexham, and (the then) Newcastle Polytechnic, he initially worked in management training in Edinburgh before joining the Prison Service.

 


 

   Wallace WilsonWallace Wilson - Youth Justice Board  (YJB)         

As Head of Region for the Youth Justice Board in the North East of England, Wallace is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Criminal Justice System as it impacts on children and young people up to the age of 18. He played a national role in re-engineering the Youth Justice Board’s monitoring of the young person’s secure estate across England and Wales and continues to take a national lead on secure estate issues as well as being the national directorate lead on work with faith groups.

Previously Wallace worked as Head of Planning and Partnership for the Legal Services Commission in the North East, responsible for the development of the Community Legal Service. He has also led the introduction of the Legal Aid Quality Assurance Standard for solicitors and advice agencies. He has also held senior posts with Newcastle Careers Service and was Director of the Tyne and Wear Racial Equality Council.

 

  
  Wendy Dale -
Government Office North East
Wendy Dale

Has been working in the Community Safety Policy unit of Government Office North East representing the Deputy Regional Director since 2005. She is an Assistant Chief Officer with the National Probation Service Northumbria on a secondment. Her current responsibilities include Reducing Re-offending, Prolific and Priority Offending (PPO), Local Criminal Justice Boards, Local Area Agreements (LAA) and Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs). 

Her career in the probation service began in 1972 and she has worked in Northumbria since 1982 and has held a number of management roles.

 

 

  
  Chris Livesley

A solicitor, has served as the justices’ clerk for South Tyneside since 1984, having served previously as deputy to Coventry Justices. He became responsible for Gateshead in 2000 and became justices’ clerk for the whole of Northumbria at the end of March 2008. He had previously taken a lead role for Northumbria with regard to enforcement and youth courts’ training. He is the honorary secretary to the North East branch of the Magistrates’ Association and serves on the standing committee of Newcastle Law Society.
