Victim Support - did you know?

Most victims of crime are referred to Victim Support directly by the police. Victim Support have a vital role to play in increasing the confidence of victims and witnesses and are a key member of the Criminal Justice Board.

If a victim or witness has to go to Court they can be referred to Witness Services who can offer preparation visits and arrange Special Measures. Victim Support manages the Witness Service.

When someone is referred to Victim Support they will receive:

  • smeone to talk to in confidence
  • information on police and court procedures
  • help in dealing with other organisations
  • information about compensation and insurance
  • links to other sources of help
  • in some cases of hardship payment for services needed as a result of the crime.

The Victim Support Victim Care Team is now staffed from 8am to 8pm Mon to Friday.

Many volunteers work for Victim Support but they are managed by permanent staff and are a professional, diverse and well-trained service.
