Justice Awards 2009

North Yorkshire nominees from 3 different categories have made it into the final of the prestigous national Justice Awards 2009.

The Justice Awards were established by the Attorney General, the Rt. Hon Baroness Scotland of Asthal QC, then Minister of State for the Home Office in 2004.

Thousands of people across the Criminal Justice System (CJS) do an amazing job. Every day their dedication makes a dramatic difference to people's lives. The Justice Awards recognise exceptional achievement among staff and volunteers working in criminal justice.

The awards are now in their sixth year, and have succeeded in becoming a highly regarded national scheme which promotes excellence and best practice.

The three finalists from North Yorkshire are:

Ian Rawson-Lax for his work on behalf of Victim Support in caring for witnesses (Individual Award)

Northallerton Magistrates' Court  Witness Service for their work in Caring for Witnesses(Team Award).

Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team(Rural) for their work in Engaging with the Community.

All three are now invited to the Awards ceremony in London on October 20th where the winners will be announced by Baroness Scotland

In total 12 nominations were received within the North Yorkshire area.All of them will receive recognition at the Local Criminal Justice 'Talking Justice 'event at the Merchant Taylors Hall,York on October 15th. The full list is set out below:
