Witness Care Units

You may worry about what would happen if you had to report an offence, give a statement to the police or attend court to give evidence.

Whilst we cannot take away all of your fears we can:

* improve how we keep you informed about the case by ensuring you are contacted regularly,
* keep you advised of court dates
* arrange support to help you attend court if you have to give evidence.

The staff in the Witness Care Units not only provide you with information but also offer you the opportunity to talk about any issues or problems you may have about coming to court. For example, you may feel intimidated about giving evidence or may have young children to care for. Your Witness Care Officer can work with you to overcome any problems.

The Witness Care Units provide victims and witnesses attending court with a single point of contact until the court case is concluded. Eventually every victim and witness will be contacted by a trained Witness Care Officer who will keep them informed about their case and arrange any on- going support.

Norfolk Constabulary and the Norfolk Crown Prosecution Service are working together with Victim Support, Witness Services and Leeway Women's Aid to provide a service that victims and witnesses of crime can feel confident in.

We need YOU to report offences to police and provide a statement. You may also have to attend court to give evidence; however, we can support you through the Witness Care Units in Norfolk.

Trained Witness Care Officers will be able to answer any questions you may have and most importantly, arrange any additional help you may need, such as transport and childcare.
