Norfolk Youth Advisory Panel - October 2008

The Norfolk Youth Advisory Panel (NYAP) is one of this year's Justice Awards finalists. NYAP in Media Training

NYAP is the only Youth Advisory Panel in England and Wales working solely for young victims of crime within Victim Support. The eight members, aged 12-17 years, continue to voluntarily give their time to meet each month in order to discuss service provision for children affected by crime in Norfolk and beyond. They have acheived great media coverage, co-ordinated workshops in schools to deliver messages on crime and victimisation and have recently been awarded the Lord Mayor of Norwich's Civic Award for Voluntary Services. Their achievements over the last 12 months include:

  • Raising funds for two residential activity breaks to support young vitims of crime, helping them to cope with the effects of the crime
  • Working with members of the National Youth Theatre to develop short film clips for the Victim Support national website for children and young people (www.are-you-ok.org.uk)
  • Developing and filming a training video for Norfolk Constabulary to assist in Senior Police training. The film related to a missing young person an the effects on her family and friends, as well as a police investigation.

NYAP was set up in October 2006 and has achieved so much in only 18 months. They have helped develop Victim Support's national communication and marketing channels for young victims. They continue to help shape and improve services available to their peers, on both a local and national basis.
