Inside Justice
Inside Justice aims to improve public awareness of the criminal justice service (CJS) so that members of the public are confident to report crimes and come forward as witnesses. It also encourages people to participate in the justice process by becoming Magistrates or volunteering and to explore the wide range of careers in the CJS.
This year, the London Criminal Justice Board (CJB) will focus ‘Inside Justice’ activities on youth engagement and youth safety. Our ‘Engaging Schools’ project aims to bring together the judiciary and CJS agencies (through our Local Criminal Justice Groups, the LCJGs), with schools to increase young people’s understanding of the CJS. The project aims to increase young people’s confidence in the CJS agencies – that are there to help and support them.
London CJB Chief Executive Andrew Morley said: “Getting out to our schools offers criminal justice practitioners important opportunities to increase young people’s understanding of London’s criminal justice service, and to improve their confidence in it.
"We want young people to know that London’s criminal justice agencies take their responsibility to young people seriously, and know that they work together to keep young people safe. If they do experience crime they should know what will happen and what support they can expect and the best way to ensure that they do is to speak to young people direct.”
The London CJB co-ordinated a programme of events and activities in the capital as part of Inside Justice Week 2008 (18 - 25 October), with 19 boroughs participating in more than 17 local events. Click here to view the picture gallery.
