Virtual Courts
Virtual Courts will use video conferencing technology to link police stations to courts. This will allow defendants to be heard at court from police stations shortly after charge. There is also the technology in place to allow all agencies to access documents and information on a ‘virtual space’.
A successful prototype was run during the summer of 2007 and a national business case is currently being prepared by the Office for Criminal Justice Reform. Pending a positive outcome of the business case submission, London will participate as an early test area .
