Partnership Working
MAPPOM Team (Multi Agency Prolific and Priority Offender Management Team).
The Role of the MAPPOM Team.
The Multi Agency Prolific and Priority Offender Management team has been in existence for nealry two years now. The team works with approximately 330 offenders who are responsible for a significant number of burglaries, street robberies and volume car crime in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The team is made up of Probation, Police, Drug Workers and a range of specialist posts. The offenders are almost exclusively male aged between 18 and 26 and many have heroin and crack addictions. Most of them have been to prison in excess of half a dozen times.
The aim of the team is to reduce the amount of offending either by using the 'carrot' approach of the numerous resources the team has at its disposal or the 'stick' which sees offenders who fail to co-operate with us returned to Court or custody immediately.
Role of the MAPPOM Art Therapist by Hannah Godfrey.
My role involves using psychotherapy combined with art marking to help the offenders express themselves. The art made can help to identify and reflect the subconscious meterial which can be seen as a catalyst for their offending behaviour. Through this process the offenders can begin to better understand themselves, their problems and the choices they can make. I see about 200 offenders each week and the psychotherapy lasts about 14 sessions, although some offenders stay a lot longer.
