About us

Local criminal justice boards were launched in April 2003; there are 42 Boards across England and Wales. Each Board works at a strategic level and is responsible for the delivery of a number of key government targets in relation to criminal justice. The nature and level of these targets varies from year to year. You can see the latest performance figures for Lancashire by clicking here

Lancashire’s Criminal Justice Board is charged with local delivery of the following CJS objectives:

  • Meeting the needs of victims and witnesses
  • Preventing and reducing offending and anti-social behaviour
  • Inspiring confidence in the Lancashire criminal justice system
  • Preventing crime - particularly that which would be committed by young people
  • Improving the processes by which justice is delivered - for example speeding up court processes, enforcing warrants and bringing back before the courts those in breach of their community orders
  • Getting more people involved in volunteering across the local criminal justice system

The LCJB consists of the Chief Officers of the criminal justice agencies - and key partners - in Lancashire. Click here to see who is serving on the Board in 2009-2010.

The Board meets once a month, with operational sub-groups meeting to deliver improvements on an ongoing basis. Click here to find out more.
