  1. Narrowing the Justice Gap Hampshire and Isle of Wight have improved the number offences brought to justice. The latest performance figures shows that up to February 2007 we have brought 38,569 offences to justice, against a baseline of 31,150 and a March 2007 target of 39,231 - this is good performance towards meeting the target and more work is being done to improve this performance. Performance figures for March 2007 will be published shortly
  2. The Persistent Young Offender Pledge We are now consistently under the 71 day target for processing Persistent Young Offenders. Our most recent months peformance being 64 days.
  3. Reducing the Number of Ineffective Trials Performance has been good this year in both the Magistrates and Crown Court. The aim is to reduce the number of ineffective trials so the % for performance should be less than the baseline (starting) % and target set: For the Magistrates Court the latest rolling years performance data shows the number of ineffective trials as 18% compared to the 2002 baseline of 35.7% and the target of 21% For the Crown Court the latest rolling years performance data shows the number of ineffective trials as 11.1% compared to the 2002 baseline of 19.9% and the target of 15%.
  4. The Readiness for Trial Project The Readiness for Trial Project in Portsmouth Magistrates Court has had a significant impact on Ineffective Trials. Due to its success it will be rolled out across the area, reducing ineffective trials thus reducing the strain on victims and witnesses and stopping offenders walking free. We still need the help of Witnesses to attend trials to make this happen.
  5. Raising Public Confidence in the Criminal Justice System The aim is to increase public confidence in the criminal justice system - against a 2002 baseline of 42% and 2008 target of 49%. The most recent performance data shows performance as 43.7%. The Criminal Justice Board are committed to increasing awareness of the Criminal Justice System and raising public confidence. Events such as the Criminal Justice open days help to do this.
