Witness Care Unit

In March 2005, Gloucestershie's Witness Care Unit was set up. The unit is designed to encourage witnesses to speak up by working to meet the needs of victims and witnesses rather than expecting them to fit around the system.
The criminal justice system relies on witnesses for the smooth delivery of the criminal justice process. Witnesses are now supported at every stage of the process and any difficulties, such as child care issues or fear of intimidation, are identified and overcome in good time.
A Witness Care Unit Officer also keeps the individual informed about progress of the case and the outcome of the case.
Gloucestershire's Witness Care Unit ensures:
- More witnesses feel able to testify
- More trials are going ahead
- More successful convictions take place
