In June 2007 Essex Criminal Justice took part in a Multi- Cultural Fun Day at Chelmsford Women's Resource Centre.  Attended by survivors of domestic violence, friends and supporters, the event aimed to raise awareness about cultural diversity.  Many young visitors enjoyed playing the Justice Game.  Picture right: Tom McQuillan, Gill Hirst and Neelam Pervez from the National Probation Service help man the Essex CJB stand at the event.  Picture far right: one of the young visitors takes part in the Justice Game.

Events - 2006

Two Court Open Day events were held in Essex as part of Inside Justice Week 2006.  The first, was held at Harlow Magistrates' Court, and attracted a number of visitors plus about 150 students from local schools who attended with their teachers as part of their Citizenship studies.

The event was opened by the Chair of Essex Criminal Justice Board, Mary Archer, Chief Officer for the Probation Service in Essex, pictured left.

Visitors were able to witness mock trials taking place in the courtrooms, talk to staff from all the criminal justice agencies and representatives of the Safer Harlow Partnership and Victim Support Essex.

Younger visitors enjoyed taking part in the Justice Game, which is a fun way of explaining how criminal justice agencies work together and the possible impact of their actions if they either break the law or assist in bringing offenders to justice.

A second, similar, event was held at Colchester County Court , when again criminal justice agency staff welcomed students and teachers from several local schools, as well as local people and the town's MP Mr Bob Russell.

One of the most popular attractions at both events was the SERCO prison escort vehicle. Younger visitors were also very keen to find out more about the Essex Police Marine unit (right) who were offering a day out with the unit to one person from each event who completed the event questionnaire.
