Volunteer with the Youth Offending Teams

The Bournemouth and Poole Youth Offending Team and the Dorset Youth Offending Team both use volunteers to enhance the service they deliver.

Youth Offending Teams work with children, young people and their families to prevent anti-social behaviour and crime, and to prevent re-offending.

Volunteers assist in four main ways:

  • As members of Youth Offending Panels – meeting young people who have offended and working a contract out with them to prevent re-offending and make good for their offence.
  • Working with Youth Offending Team Officers to help individual young people achieve their supervision plans.
  • Acting as an "appropriate adult" to support the young person at court or when questioned by the police – when their parents are unable to do so.
  • Assisting with the supervision of reparation to make good for their offending.

Both Youth Offending Teams are developing volunteering opportunities for drivers, onsite general volunteers, befriending volunteers, volunteers to take part in outdoor activities and organised expeditions and volunteers to help with literacy and numeracy skills.
