The Witness Intermediary Scheme

Witness Intermediary Scheme

Back in April 2007, Derbyshire launched the Witness Intermediary Scheme after several successful pilots.

The scheme, which has now been fully rolled out nationally, sees specialists, called intermediaries, being called upon to help vulnerable witnesses of crime provide statements to police and give evidence if called to court.

Intermediaries act as an independent 'go-between' for the witness, helping children and people with mental or physical disabilities and disorders to understand questions and assist them in communicating their answers.

Intermediaries perform an important function, helping the most vulnerable members of society gain equal access to justice. For more information, please see the 'News' section of this website.
