What is Derbyshire Criminal Justice Board?

Derbyshire Criminal Justice Board (DCJB) is one of 42 that were set up across England and Wales as part of a government initiative to transform the way that the criminal justice system works to catch, convict and rehabilitate criminals.

DCJB plays a vital role in the fight to reduce crime and bring more offences to justice. Board membership is made up of Chief Officers from the following justice agencies:

  • Derbyshire Constabulary
  • Derbyshire Crown Prosecution Service
  • Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS)
  • Her Majesty's Prison Service (HMPS)
  • Derbyshire Probation Area
  • Youth Offending Service - Derby and Derbyshire

Victim Support and the Legal Services Commission are also members of the Board and in addition, Derbyshire Criminal Justice Board works extremely closely with key stakeholders such as Derby Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and the County's Crime, Disorder and Reduction Partnerships (CDRPs).

DCJB is committed to providing the people of Derbyshire with a safer environment in which to live, where crime is dealt with efficiently and effectively.

The following are the Board's key objectives: 

  • Narrow the Justice Gap - bring more offences to justice
  • Improve Victim and Witness Care
  • Increase Public Confidence
  • Increase Court Efficiency and Effectiveness
  • Tackle Persistent Offenders (including persistent young offenders)
