What is Derbyshire Criminal Justice Board?
Derbyshire Criminal Justice Board (DCJB) is one of 42 that were set up across England and Wales as part of a government initiative to transform the way that the criminal justice system works to catch, convict and rehabilitate criminals.
DCJB plays a vital role in the fight to reduce crime and bring more offences to justice. Board membership is made up of Chief Officers from the following justice agencies:
- Derbyshire Constabulary
- Derbyshire Crown Prosecution Service
- Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS)
- Her Majesty's Prison Service (HMPS)
- Derbyshire Probation Area
- Derbyshire Youth Offending Service
- Derby Community Safety Partnership (including Derby City Youth Offending Service)
- Safer Derbyshire
- Legal Services Commission
- Victim Support
DCJB is committed to providing the people of Derbyshire with a safer environment in which to live, where crime is dealt with efficiently and effectively.
The Board's key focus is to increase public trust and confidence in the Criminal Justice System (CJS) across communities in Derbyshire.
The Board will also be looking at:
- Improving Victim and Witness Care
- Serious Sexual and Domestic Violence
- Young Victims of Crime
- Hate Crime
- Addressing disproportionality within the CJS
- A survey will be carried out to ascertain if there is disproportionality in the CJS in Derbyshire and if there is, how serious it is
- Improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the CJS
- Criminal Justice Simple Speedy Summary (CJSSS) including Youth
- Streamlined Process
- Conditional Cautions
- Professional Judgement
- Licence Recall
- Community Penalty Enforcement
- Prolific and other Priority Offenders (PPO)/Persistent Young Offenders (PYO)
- Reducing re-offending
