Background Information
Cleveland Criminal Justice Board (CCJB) was established on 1st April 2003 to transform the way in which the criminal justice system (CJS) operates. The board brings together the chief officers from the major CJS agencies including:
- Crown Prosecution Sercive (CPS)
- Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS - including Magistrates and Crown Courts)
- Her Majesty's Prison Service (HMPS);
- Police
- Probation Service
- Victim Support & Witness Service; and,
- Youth Offending Service
see the 'Board Members' page to find out who the chief officers are
Through joint working the CCJB is able to improve co-operation between the CJS agencies outlined above to:
- become more effective at catching, convicting and rehabilitating criminals in Cleveland; and
- provide a more effective service to victims and witnesses in Cleveland.
