How can I get involved?

You have an opportunity to get involved in tackling neighbourhood crime in different ways.  You could, for example, suggest an unpaid work project for offenders to carry out, or inform the Cleveland Criminal Justice Board of what you want to see happen in your neighbourhood (see the 'Contact Us' link on the left for details on how to get in touch)

You could also get involved by volunteering.  Below is a list of possibilities:

  • You could join your local community consultation panel through the Stronger Together in East Middlesbrough (STEM) project (see 'Contacts' page on the left for further details)
  • Volunteer as a special constable through Cleveland Police
  • Volunteer with Victim Support & Witness Service - Teesside to help Teesside residents cope with the effects of crime
  • Volunteer to become a Youth Offending Referral Panel worker: Youth offender panels are a ground-breaking way of dealing with young people who commit crime. They provide an opportunity for young people to speak for themselves, rather than through representation, and to take responsibility for their actions.  Panel consists of two volunteers recruited directly from the local community, alongside one member of the youth offending team (YOT). The panel will meet with the young person and their parents or guardians to talk about the reasons for the offending behaviour and to agree a tailor-made contract aimed at putting things right. The victim is encouraged to attend the meeting to tell the young person how the crime affected them.

  • Become a Magistrate
