In Cheshire the criminal justice agencies have improved the support to victims of domestic abuse and rape.
There are now a number of specialist courts across the county dealing with crimes of domestic violence. Magistrates, legal advisors and prosecutors as well as Police Officers and Witness Service volunteers are specially trained to reduce the trauma associated with giving evidence in court in such cases.
In respect of allegations of rape the CPS has a team of specialist lawyers who review the cases and liaise closely with Police counterparts. A range of special measures is available and, where necessary, full use is made of these measures to enable victims to give evidence in court more effectively.
