Safer Peterborough Partnership
The SaferPeterborough partnership is a collection of organisations from the across the city that work together to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour and ensure Peterborough is a place where people feel safe to live, work and visit.
There are lots of organisations involved but those that are responsible, by law, for the work of the partnership are:
- Peterborough City Council
- Cambridgeshire Constabulary
- Peterborough Primary Care Trust
- Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service
- Cambridgeshire Police Authority
These are known as responsible authorities.
Co-operating authorities are:
- Cambridgeshire Probation Service
- Cross Keys Homes (representing Registered Social Landlords)
Invitees to co-operate are:
- Peterborough Racial Equality Council
- Drinksense
- Bridgegate Drug Services
- Victim Support
- Peterborough Mediation
- HMP Peterborough
- Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board
What the priorities in the SaferPeterborough partnership plan?
- Serious acquisitive crime:
This means crimes where someone takes something that doesn't belong to them. For example, burglary from a house, theft from a car or theft of a car, robbery of personal property. - Antisocial behaviour:
We will be seeking to reduce the anti social behaviour experienced in our communities. We will also be working to ensure that anti social behaviour does not concern you to the extent of affecting your quality of life. - Domestic abuse:
Lots of domestic abuse victims do not tell anyone about their suffering and suffer in silence. We are going to work hard to ensure that people know how to get help and feel able to seek help. We will also be working hard to reduce the amount of times that victims suffer domestic abuse. - Violent crime including alcohol related crime and disorder:
We will be aiming to reduce the number of violent crimes in the city particularly those that are fuelled by alcohol and working hard with the licensed trade to improve safety in our pubs and clubs. We know that people are also very concerned about young people using alcohol in our neighbourhoods, often in parks and open spaces, and we will be working to reduce the harm caused by this behaviour. - Sexual offences:
Although the numbers of people who are victims of a sexual assault of very low we know that this has a devastating effect upon the victim and their family. We also know that many sexual assaults go unreported and we will therefore be working hard to increase the reporting of sexual offences and the support that is provided to victims and their families. - Road safety:
We are committed to reducing the number of people being killed or injured on our roads. We are working hard to ensure people are safe on our roads whether they travel by car, bike or on foot.
How will we communicate the partnership plan to the public?
The partnership is committed to ensuring that any member of our community can have access to the information about the partnership plan. It is important that the public know:
- The areas of business that we consider to be most important
- What we are going to do to improve in these areas
- How we will know if we have been successful
To ensure people have access to as much information as they wish, we will:
- Publish a summary of this plan in easily understood language
- Ensure the full plan is easily accessible to those who wish to see more detail than contained in the summary
- Hold two annual ‘Face the People’ consultation events to allow the public to question the partnership about performance and share with us their concerns
We will make the partnership plan available in a number of ways including:
- SaferPeterborough website
- Greater Peterborough Partnership website
- Responsible authorities' websites
- Hard copies in sports centres, libraries and other public buildings
- ‘Your Peterborough’ magazine, which is distributed to every household in the city
