Breaking the silence on hate crime
Breaking the Silence on Hate Crime in Cambridgeshire
The Crown Prosecution Service is breaking the silence on hate crime by taking a zero tolerance stance against offences motivated by prejudice.

The CPS is opening up its files on hate crime to scrutiny by an independent panel.
The Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel's members include representatives from the African Caribbean Forum in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire Racial Incident Support Project (CRISP) and MENTER, a regional network for black and minority ethnic voluntary organisations. An independent legal adviser from the University of Cambridge also sits on the panel.
Chief Crown Prosecutor Richard Crowley says: “We are opening up our hate crime files to scrutiny to improve our accountability to the community and the transparency of our decision-making. We are also doing this in order to improve on CPS performance on hate crimes.”

One of the Cambridgeshire Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel’s aims is to increase public confidence in the way hate crime cases are being prosecuted.
