Speed dating takes on a crime-busting twist
You’ve heard of speed-dating – but how about speed crime-conferencing?
For the first time in Cambridgeshire, Councillors took part in a special event with a ‘speed dating’ format to find out more about local schemes to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.
The Community Safety Partnership Event at Burgess Hall in St Ives on March 3, 2009, was organised by Cambridgeshire County Council Community Safety Team in partnership with Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board.
Councillors got to see first hand some of the key initiatives taking place to cut crime and antisocial behaviour.
The event was opened by March East Councillor Fred Yeulett, who spoke about the importance of communities working together to keep their neighbourhoods safe.
The morning followed a ‘speed dating’ format – so each group of delegates got the chance to speak to a wide variety of staff.
The Safer Fenland Partnership’s new purple ‘CrimeBUSter’ was a big hit at the event, with visitors getting a guided tour inside the bus, which will be used to run informative surgeries in rural parts of the district.
Stallholders included representatives from the Domestic Violence Advocacy Service, Drinksense, Cambridgeshire Prolific and other Priority Offenders Scheme, Crown Prosecution Service, The Courts, Cambridgeshire Drug Intervention Programme, the Probation Service and Cambridgeshire Youth Offending Service.
South Cambs and Cambridge City Locality Team, Addaction, Huntingdonshire Businesses Against Crime and the Trading Standards Homeshield Project also took part.
