CPS pop diva witnesses online success

Cambridgeshire songstress Katrina Polfrey cares for witnesses as part of her day job – but now she’s witnessing the success of her other passion coming to fruition.

Katrina’s debut single, Easy Way Out, is proving a hit online – even though she’s not yet signed to a record label.

The inspirational track is about putting your neck on the line to achieve your dreams. The 21-year-old from Offord D’Arcy, near Huntingdon, has had to finance her music herself – but her punt is paying off.

Since being released on the internet on September 2, 2008, Easy Way Out has received top popularity ratings on the iTunes Store, an online superstore accessed by music-lovers across the globe.

Katrina lives a double life. By day she works for the Witness Care Team, a joint collaboration between the Crown Prosecution Service and Police, supporting witnesses caught up in the justice system. As a witness care officer, she calls up witnesses to ensure they’re kept updated of trial dates and defendants’ pleas in court. Every other hour of the day Katrina’s been passionately pursuing her musical dream.

She’s currently putting the finishing touches to an album she recorded with London producer Hank Hughes, due for release in early 2009. The album, Believe, will contain 11 tracks, including nine co-written by Katrina and Hank.

Katrina, whose musical heroes include Lucie Silvas and Christina Aguilera, says most of her tracks are semi-autobiographical and hopes they’ll strike a chord with other listeners.

“I just want people to listen to my music and be able to relate to it.”

She adds: “Everyone has a dream – whether it’s to sing at Wembley or compete in the Olympics. Everyone should have the opportunity to at least try to achieve their dream.”

Katrina is a former pupil of Godmanchester Primary School and Hinchingbrooke Secondary School.
