The Kids Are Alright

Pass it on!
Feral thugs hanging around street corners… Teen gangs on the rampage…
Each week we're bombarded with images of out-of-control teens - but the chances of being a victim of youth crime are very low. In fact nationally, only 7% of youth are responsible for 83% of youth crime. The rate of offending has not risen since 2001.
Most young people live crime-free lives. And many make a positive contribution to their communities...
The Kids Are Alright is the name of a multi award-winning project in Fenland, involving the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard newspapers, Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board, Connexions, Fenland District Council, Youth District Council, Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service and Cambridgeshire County Council.
In this section, you can read about our aims, why we chose to pilot the campaign in Fenland and who is involved in The Kids Are Alright.
Find out why the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard were chosen as campaign partners, how the campaign is been running, the importance of youth participation in the project and its support from Cambridgeshire's top cop and fire chief.
The Kids Are Alright was a finalist in the Children & Young People Now Awards and picked up awards in the 'partnership' and 'engaging communities' sections of the Cambridgeshire Justice Awards 2009.
Our youth stereotype-busting campaign has also won the Youth Justice Board's Best Communication in Youth Justice Award! You can read about it here.
The Kids Are Alright has been crowned Community Campaign of the Year at the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards! Click here for more information.
