Campaign targets colleges
Cambridgeshire students got the chance to talk openly about drugs and alcohol with police and drug treatment specialists during a series of informal visits held throughout the county.
Information stalls were set up at Cambridge Regional College, The College of West Anglia at Wisbech and Peterborough Regional College as part of a host of events taking place throughout the county during the first ever National Tackling Drugs Week.
Police joined members of Cambridgeshire Drugs and Alcohol Action Team, Addaction and Cambridgeshire Criminal Justice Board during the three roadshows.
Students were able to view a realistic display of (fake) illegal drugs, ask questions, gain advice and voice concerns about the dangers associated with drug-taking. They were also able to talk freely about problems associated with binge drinking and cigarette addiction.
College staff were able to get expert advice about how to broach the subject of drug-taking with potential users.
Working together, the various justice and health agencies gave away educational leaflets, t-shirts promoting the Home Office's "Tackling Drugs, Changing Lives" campaign and loads of FRANK goodies, including frisbees, rulers, pens, key rings and mouse mats.
The roadshows were a big hit with students and staff alike.
