MOCK TRIALS COMPETITION

Each year HM Courts Service in Bedfordshire holds a Mock Trials Competition aimed at Year 13 students. This one-day competition gives students an opportunity to understand the legal processes of criminal justice, meet and interact with magistrates, lawyers, police, prosecutors and legal advisors. Entry is free, and no preparatory work is required. The winning team receives a trophy and a prize. 2009 winners' Luton Sixth Form College are pictured below.

COURT VISITS FOR SCHOOLS AND YOUTH ORGANISATIONS

Tours of Bedford and Luton Magistrates' Courts and Luton Crown Court can be arranged for parties of up to 20 students. Visits during working hours are restricted to students aged 14 and over. For younger children it may be possible to arrange an evening tour of Luton Crown Court.

PLAY THE 'JUSTICE' GAME!

The Justice Game is played on a 'Monopoly' style board, and takes children through the various aspects of the criminal justice system. There are small rewards for participants, and a prize for the winner. Suitable for ages five and above. The game can be used as part of a PSE programme, or for PTA events, and is provided free of charge.
